Victoria University is on the hunt for a new chief information security officer following an initiative to converge its campus digital and infrastructure functions.

Victoria University hunts for new CISO

Its director of cyber and digital networks Nitin Singh resigned in November; at one time during his six years in the role, the university also referred to him with the joint title of CISO, but iTnews understands that he was director of cyber and digital networks when he resigned.

Singh recently posted on LinkedIn that he was "taking a short break before starting my next role”. He did not reply to iTnews' requests for comment.

The university also declined to comment on his departure, but iTnews understands that the CISO role was newly created as part of an organisational change program that required a re-evaluation of the university’s security requirements.

Victoria University’s facilities and IT services teams were merged into a new Digital and Campus Services (DCS) department at the beginning of the year.

The CISO office is within DCS; it will be responsible for developing a security strategy that supports the university’s recently converged physical and digital model, according to a job posting released on Friday.

The CISO will report to Victoria University’s chief digital officer and DCS executive director Stuart Hildyard; Hildyard was tapped for the lead role in January.

Singh was appointed Victoria University’s director of cyber and digital networks in 2017.  Before that he worked at IT auditing and governance association ISACA as its Melbourne chapter marketing director for four-and-a-half years.

Singh has held other senior auditing, risk and IT service management roles at EY, NAB and ANZ.
