The airport is due to commence operations in 2026, with the metro to connect it to Sydney’s heavy rail network at St Marys station.

Nokia will provide the railway contractor for the line, Siemens Mobility, with a network for passenger safety CCTV and operational communications such as “train-to-ground”, backhaul, on board, and trackside systems.

The IP/MPLS network will use Nokia’s switches and routers, with NetGuard security providing multifactor authentication, device authentication, automated endpoint detection and response, and real-time alerts.

Parklife Metro won the public private partnership contract for stations, systems, trains, operations and maintenance of the six-station, 12-train operation which also includes a stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills.
