Search for replacement begins.

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is set to lose its technology and data business chief after almost seven years with the market operator.

ASX said that Dan Chesterman, who started as chief information officer in September 2017 before becoming group executive of technology and data, would depart “in the coming months”.

“A search has now commenced to replace the role and Chesterman will continue to support ASX over the coming months as a transition plan is put in place,” the markets operator said.

As the group executive for technology and data, Chesterman’s responsibilities include the data products ASX distributes, its data centre and connectivity services businesses, its enterprise data strategy, and a team that focuses on new product development and innovation.

CEO and managing director Helen Lofthouse said that under Chesterman’s leadership, a significant amount of change had been delivered.

“Under Dan, the focus of the team is more developed, and our strategic priorities are well embedded, which makes this the right time for handing over to someone who will lead the execution over the next three-to-five years,” she said in a statement.

“Dan has always brought a really positive energy to the Group, first as our CIO and then as leader of our technology and data business.

“He is a valued member of the executive team and I’ve really enjoyed working with him both as a peer and as a direct report.”

Lofthouse said that “more opportunity remains within the technology and data business” for Chesterman’s future replacement to tackle.

ASX appointed a separate CIO, Tim Whiteley, in May 2023.
