For faster, easier govt transactions.

The NSW government has started offering citizens the option to pay for car rego and drivers licence renewals using PayPal.

Service NSW taps PayPal for digital payments

The partnership is aimed at making online and mobile payments for the 1000-odd transactions offered by Service NSW faster and easier for citizens.

Service NSW has been looking at integrating payment options like PayPal and Apple Pay into its government-wide payments platform for at least the past three years.

Roads and Maritime Services will be the first to offer the payment option for transactions, which make up the lion’s share of transactions Service NSW processes across the state.

PayPal will then be progressively rolled out to all 40 agencies that accept payments through the Service NSW website and mobile app.

Finance minister Victor Dominello said the tie-up was another example of the government embracing digital technology to enhance the experience of citizens.

“Millions of NSW citizens already have PayPal accounts so it makes sense to offer this payment option for government transactions,” he said.

“Service NSW has become the one-stop shop for licences and household savings and this partnership will now offer customers a one click solution for payment.”

He said early results from the partnership were promising, with Paypal transactions accounting for more than 10 percent of all digital payments.

“Customers are already giving the new platform the thumbs up – in less than a week PayPal currently represents 13 percent of all digital payments which is about 9000 transactions,” he said.
