The NSW Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) has kicked off the search for a new director of IT and chief information officer (CIO), following the departure earlier this year of Mike Price.

The DPS recruitment advertisement said the CIO is responsible for the NSW Parliament’s “digital strategy, architecture and services”.

The position description for the role states the new CIO will also act as the parliament’s CISO.

In that capacity, the CIO will develop a cyber security strategy, assess the current security posture, and work to reduce risk.

The CIO will also work with the DPS’s director of digital transformation, a position held by Danielle Schefer since December 2022.

The role oversees three permanent senior managers of IT services, cyber security, and enterprise architecture, and a budget of around $5 million.

Price had held the CIO role since 2017; he also was responsible for digital transformation, before Schefer’s appointment.

During that time, Price said on his LinkedIn entry, he was responsible for a technology replacement, migration to the cloud, and modernisation of the parliament's audiovisual services.

He previously spent six years with the NSW Public Service Commission, five years as head of application delivery for the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, and 12 years with Oracle in the UK and Australia.
