Nationwide Optus outage hits mobile, fixed services

According to a notice on Optus’ status page, both fixed and mobile customers are affected.

“Our engineers are currently investigating a network fault that is impacting Optus mobile and fixed customers, we apologise for any inconvenience caused," the telco said.

“We’re aware of an issue impacting connections for some Optus customers," an Optus post on X (formerly Twitter) adds.

"We understand connectivity is important and are working to restore services as a priority. We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we have the issue resolved.”

According to ABC News, the outage is national.

The outage briefly halted all services on Melbourne’s Metro Trains.

The rail operator said in a note on its website that train services have since resumed across the Metro network "after an earlier communications outage".

But it added that “there are major delays to all lines as we restore services with select alterations and cancellations.”

Other providers who resell Optus services are also affected.

Amaysim’s site carries the following notice: “We're currently experiencing nationwide outage which may impact your ability to connect to our services.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this matter.”
