The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation's (ANSTO) is fixing errors in its SAP system that affected the leave balances of some staff.
The union representing ANSTO workers - the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) - said its members had reported a range of concerns about data in the SAP system.
The concerns "ranged from privacy issues to problems with leave allocations and superannuation payments," CPSU deputy secretary Beth Vincent-Pietsch said.
The latest issue saw around 250 staff afforded more leave than they were entitled to.
"Staff who have been identified as having excess leave have been notified that this excess balance will be deducted in the next pay cycle," the union said in a statement.
"The reason for this error is not clear, as many of the affected staff believe that they checked their carryover when the new SAP system was implemented last July and found no error at the time."
The union is lobbying for a "gradual reconciliation" of the excess to avoid disadvantaging anyone that had made plans or already taken too much leave based on the incorrect figures.
However, it said ANSTO was making "an immediate deduction" instead.
Vincent-Pietsch told iTnews that some staff had reported their leave balance was in deficit as a result, leaving them confused as to what their actual entitlement was.
“People don’t know whether the system has somehow removed leave they should be entitled to or if they genuinely have enough leave to take their planned holidays," she said.
“Our members in ANSTO understand that any systems change needs a bedding down period, but they believe many of the issues that have been encountered in this case could and should have been avoided."
An ANSTO spokesperson confirmed the excess leave issue impacted 250 staff and said that “a small number” had gone over their actual entitlement.
“An independent payroll consultant was immediately engaged to undertake a review, and already more than 80 percent of the affected staff have had their correct balances restored," the spokesperson said.
“We are working individually with all staff who have concerns or questions.”
