Boyley gets bigger remit.

Department of Industry and Science CIO Matthew Boyley will make the switch to the Attorney-General’s Department after winning the top IT job at the justice agency.

AGD nabs Industry tech chief as new CIO

AGD joined the rush of Canberra entities advertising executive roles in July after the government lifted a two-year hiring freeze that had prevented them from hiring candidates outside the public service.

Joann Corcoran had been filling the role - which manages an $18 million, 80-person IT division - in an acting capacity for the previous two years.

Boyley’s appointment sees him come under a higher profile employer and a promotion from senior executive service band one to senior executive service band two.

At AGD’s he will oversee a handful of new clients - the IT needs of six Canberra arts agencies and the National Archives will be handed to the department as part of the Coalition's ‘smaller government’ efficiency drive.

Boyley has enjoyed a long and diverse IT management career in Canberra.

His career spans the Australian Federal Police, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and a range of environment portfolio agencies.

He had been CIO at the Department of Industry since June last year, following a promotion from general manager.
